Vintage 1967 Fender Bronco Dakota Red With Hardshell Case

Vintage And Used Electric Guitars

We just took in a great vintage Fender Bronco, built in 1967, the first year of the Bronco.  It's a unique model, in its inclusion of a tremolo system that never showed up on any other guitar in the company's history.   Fender started working on it in 1964 and debuted it in 1967.   Though it was released initially as a student-level entry guitar, to replace the Musicmaster, this model has acquired value over the years, and become a favorite amongst many players.

It used the body and neck from the Fender Mustang, but had only one pickup and a different tremolo arm mechanism. Unlike the other Mustang variants which had 22.5" scales, the Bronco was offered only with a 24" scale length and a maple neck featuring a "round-lam" rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets and pearl dot inlays. Its single pickup was mounted in the bridge position, unlike the Musicmaster which had a neck pickup only and the Mustang and Duo-Sonic, which both had two pickups. The unique tremolo arm was Leo Fender's fourth and least popular design, and appeared only on the Bronco. It is sometimes unofficially known as the Fender steel vibrato, and colloquially as the Bronco trem.

This is a seriously cool guitar and a great showing of what Fender was doing in the late 60's.  It's all original, other than the trem arm and a few of the bridge screws.  The condition is very good considering it's over 50 years old (see photos for all of the wear marks).  You'll see that there are 2 small screw holes in the body behind the bridge; our take on it is that this is evidence that the guitar once had a different bridge before the original was put back on.  There was some routing underneath, and we've put two dowels in to secure two of the bridge screws.  The tremolo functions as it should and everything is stable.  The guitar comes with a non-original hardshell case.  It has been vetted and setup to play perfectly by the techs in our repair shop.

For those of you that know the coolness of a vintage Bronco, or just want a great piece of Fender history, this one's for you!
