Martin Custom Shop Dreadnaught/000 Style 28 Indian Rosewood Sunburst With Case

Martin Custom Shop D-28 Thin Body

Truetone Music was invited to Nazareth, PA for a very special visit. We had the chance to spec out guitars to be custom built by Martin. We were also thrilled by the prospect of being able to hand select our own wood at the factory, aided by Custom Shop representatives and tonewood experts.  That began a relationship that has continued for multiple custom runs over a number of years.

We knew we wanted to represent an interesting variety as far as models and exotic woods, but we also wanted the guitars to sound as best they could, never sacrificing tone for bling.  We also are specifically on the lookout for how to create a mix of classic and unique.  This Martin Custom Shop version of a D-28 with a 000 depth is a true example of that theory coming together in the best possible way.   This guitar was built at the Martin Custom Shop as a one-off.  We were there, saw the guitar, and immediately asked for it.  Thankfully it had just been finished, wasn't spoken for, and soon was on the way to Truetone.  We sold it pretty much immediately, and were right on top of ordering another - that's this one.

The main feature of this guitar is its unique body.  At first glance, from the front, it looks like a regular dreadnought.  Turn it to the side, and you'll see that it's not nearly as big - in fact, it has the depth of a 000 body.  This gives you the fullness, warmth and bottom end of a dreadnought, but with the tightness and crispness typically associated with a 000.  It still has the projection you'd expect.  More than anything, it's really comfortable to play.  For anyone that loves the sound of a dreadnought but perhaps isn't comfortable trying to get their arm around it while playing, this could be perfect.  Martin makes a D-16 in their regular product line with this same style, which we love - so we knew we had to have this.

The wood choice is spectacular as well.  The top is Sitka Spruce, with East Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, all hand-selected at the Custom Shop.  Highly flamed Koa binding helps to make it even more unique, and it's painted in a very cool vintage Sunburst.  The look of the guitar itself would be enough, but the materials, construction and appointments make it all the more special.  In some ways, this is a classic D-28 design, but it's much more than that.

The guitar is finished in gloss, with a satin finished Mahogany neck.  It has Martin’s popular modified low oval with high performance taper, making it very comfortable to play for hours. The radius is 16” with a nut width of 1 3/4”.  It's very easy to play this guitar - you won't want to put it down..

Other features included  scalloped bracing, a Black Ebony fretboard, Highly Flamed Koa binding on the neck, and and White w/ Paua Pearl Dot pins.  It comes with a Martin hard shell case and certificate of authenticity.

Any Martin D-28 is going to be a spectacular guitar, but this on a whole different level.  Come to Truetone Music today to experience this amazing Martin Custom Shop guitar, or order right here today.
