Fender Custom Shop International Custom 1959 Stratocaster Deluxe Closet Classic Morocco Red With Case
EXCLUSIVE TRUETONE INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS
As part of a close partnership with the Fender Custom Shop, Truetone Music cooked up an exclusive run of guitars, known as "Truetone Color Sets". It's where we do a set of instruments all in the same color, as a matching set. For the colors, we picked unique ones that are rarely ever seen. In this case, we kicked it back to the early '80's.
During Fender's incredibly long and storied history, certain groups of guitars have become cult favorites - this includes the run known as the International Series. Fender introduced them in late 1980 / early 1981, and only did them for a year or two. Instruments were made in 9 different finishes, some of which have never been repeated by Fender. While love of the specs of the guitars is debatable, what really has grasped the attention of players over the years are the colors.
We went to the Custom Shop with the idea of recreating the most popular of the colors - Maui Blue and Morocco Red - on a set of guitars with lacquer finishes given the Deluxe Closet Classic treatment. The request had to go through the chain of command, to the head of the Custom Shop, who gave it the green light after the paint team confirmed that they could do it. That was the birth of this exclusive International Customs run.
Here we have one of the first to arrive, a 1959 Stratocaster in Morocco Red. And it's stunning.
Since being introduced in 1954, the Stratocaster evolved over the decades, but for many, going to "transition year" of 1959 is the way. That's what we went for with this Custom Shop recreation, but with a few twists for modern players.
The two-piece Alder body has all of the contours that have made the Strat iconic, comfortable and downright cool. It wears a Deluxe Closet Classic lacquer finish, giving it the look and feel of a guitar that came out of the factory, was never played, and aged gracefully inside of its case, perhaps only taken out to be polished, resulting in a lush, beautiful patina. We went for "sort for lightweight" to make sure it didn't come out too heavy. Our friends at the Custom Shop picked out the lightest piece of alder on hand at the time.
We chose the 59 Esquire C neck shape due to its comfortable grip - while it has a vintage feel, it's not too thick. Some call it the perfect "in between" neck. The modern tweak is a 9.5" radius and 6105 (Narrow Tall) frets - the most popular combination. For increased playability, we had the Custom Shop remove the finish from much of the back of the neck, and roll the edges of the AAA Rosewood fretboard. Of course, the AA Flame Maple is stunning. These extra tweaks are what make a Custom Shop guitar so special.
For the pickups, we kept it real, going with the ever-popular Custom Shop Fat 50's Strat set. This gives you calibrated pickups constructed with hand-beveled, staggered Alnico V magnets and Formvar magnet wire and they deliver enhanced bass response without the harsh midrange. The middle pickup is reverse wound/reverse polarity for hum canceling in positions 2 and 4. The balanced output and enhanced dynamics are what make this Fender's most requested pickup set
Other features include a 3-ply parchment pickguard, vintage style bridge and tuning machines, bone nut and a winged string tree. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
