Fender Custom Shop 1963 Jazz Bass Relic Faded Aged Sonic Blue

Introduced in 1960 as Fender’s new “deluxe” bass guitar model, the Jazz Bass featured a sleek offset body, a notably slim neck, two pickups and controls that provided a wealth of tonal options. Gorgeous and versatile, it was an immediate bass hit. The Jazz Bass has continued to change over the years, but for many, stepping back to how it was done in the 60's is the way to go.  The Fender Custom Shop excels at recreating the look, feel and sound of these instruments, often with special tweaks.  That's where we decided to go with this one.

This Custom Shop 1963 Jazz Bass is a testament to their ability to pull off vintage recreations with modern playability.  It features a period correct 60 "U" neck shape (roasted quartersawn maple), dark rosewood fretboard, classic vintage-voiced pickups, and a mostly otherwise traditional design.  We went with a 9.50" radius and Medium Jumbo (6150) frets - this is one of the most common and popular modifications to vintage-styled instruments out of the Custom Shop.   So, you get a modern feel on a vintage style bass.  The neck being roasted also adds a super cool feature to the look of the instrument.

We chose to do this one as a Relic to accent the vintage vibe.  With that comes heavy checking, some natural player wear in the form of dings and painted worn off, and a totally "broken in" feeling neck.  The color is Faded Aged Sonic Blue, one of the most classic of Fender colors, and perfect on a 60's style Jazz bass like this.

For the pickups, we kept it real, going with a handwound Custom Shop Vintage Jazz Bass pickup set (normally an upcharge).  These recreate the sound of a classic mid-60's Jazz bass and are versatile enough for a variety of styles of playing.  Other features include a parchment pickguard, a vintage bridge and tuning machines,  and a bone nut.  Also, we chose not to have the bridge and pickup covers installed - but they are included.  It also includes a Custom Shop hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.

For any bass player that wants the vibe of a 60's Jazz bass with modern playability, this is it.  Come to Truetone Music to check it out, or order right here.
